As Libertarians, we seek a world of liberty; in which all individuals are sovereign over their own lives and minds. We believe that respect for individuality is the essential precondition for a free and prosperous world, that coercion, manipulation and fraud must be banished from society, and that investments in structures which promote and provide the tools for freedom are essential in combating the dangers of conglomerate power. The world we seek to build is one where individuals are free to follow their own dreams in their own ways, without interference from interests who seek to exploit them.
Statement of Principles
We, the members of the Libertarian Party, challenge the cult of group-think and defend instead the rights of the individual over devotion to political, social, religious or economic dogma. We believe that the involvement of the conglomerate in the structuring of our society and economy has created a religion of fiscal policy so expertly packaged that we no longer possess the skills to question it.
We believe that no idea or value set should be reserved from harsh evaluations. And so we reject devotion to any dogma - economic, social, religious - which interferes in the promotion of individual liberty.
We hold that all individuals have the right to exercise sole dominion over their own lives, and have the right to live in whatever manner they choose; that this right is sacred above economic and security concerns which herd thinking into religious-like altruisms and prevent the cultivation of true free minds.
Corporations, conglomerates and socio-religious organizations throughout history have regularly operated on the opposite principle, that they possess the right to manipulate the lives and values of individuals toward an ideal business model of endless profit. Even within the United States, all political parties other than our own grant to corporations the right to structure the economy and society into a system by which they can most easily profit.
We reject an economic system which encourages the binding together of powerful entities in order to more efficiently exploit those without access to the same tools of capitol and influence.
We believe the dabbling in social issues by the government and its representatives is immoral. That so doing corrupts the limited business of government by entwining it with issues which, by their very nature, must exist safely beyond its reach.
We support a government accessible to all who are interested in participating, regardless of any criteria. We reject trends and structures which work to cut out the average American and allow kingmakers and corporate law-writers to take control of the nation's social and economic systems. We do not believe that monetary profit and growth are inseparable from individual liberty and happiness.
Though we understand that sacrifices must be made in order to guard man against the desires of economic and social conglomerates, freedom of mind and body must never be compromised.
Essential above all else is a broad, diverse, and free education of the highest quality. In order to free individuals from the burdens of crime, post-preventative health care, war, gluttony and greed, we must provide this most essential tool to compete in and comprehend our world. Debt-free and armed with a modern and comprehensive education, each American will be free enter the world in the manner they choose, free to pursue whatever vocation, business or art which they desire.
